ABOUT perform doc

perform doc supports performing artists by documenting their artworks, proposing a more tailored and open manner for the art world to deal with performances. As, performance is a medium which in most cases, constitutes an artwork that has ephemeral qualities, perform doc supports performing artists by documenting their artworks, proposing a more tailored and flexible format for the (institutional) art world to deal with performances when exhibiting, re-enacting or including them in their collection, as well as when having documentation on those works in archive centers after the completion of the live act of a performance.

The first edition of perform doc will be a collaboration with the artists Grace Schwindt, Zhana Ivanova, Yael Davids, Jimmy Robert, Feiko Beckers and Jeremiah Day.

When creating blueprints of the performances, we will detail their content, their practical aspects and their history to help the artist to have ready documentation about their work.  Documenting is crystallizing informations which were in this case related to an ephemeral artwork. To keep the project close to the liveliness of performance, we program performances by the artists who will take part in this project.

An alive project and a challenging one: several guests from the international art scene or the university, all specialized in performances or in documentation of performances, will discuss hot topics around performance with the artists, always linked to the works of the artists. These talks will analyze how to deal with performance as an artist, as a curator or as a researcher, on a daily basis, when exhibiting, presenting or researching it.
